Slight nod to the restoration of the Tiki hut at DD! Horay.
Starting work on the final shot of the movie today. It will also feature some Tiki heads… just need to figure out where to squeeze them in.
Been looking forward to this shot for a year now – it’s the second one I boarded so it feels special. We will follow the rebirth of “man” transforming into a whale. Meaning aside – lots of swirling colors, happy trippy stuff. Exactly what we like. It’s good to end on a happy note.

Seems like the sun has moved south for the winter.
Means we have two options – hibernation or migration.
Maybe we should take a poll.
There is something about finishing a project on a sunny beach.

Either way, no sun, no pretty pictures.

… and that’s where we begin this week. Drab grey weather, rain, dark skies and serious creative block. Serious cosmic conspiracy. Tried some portobello soup as a cure, enough for one storyboard panel. Translates to 10lbs weight gain per second of animation.

Today was supposed to be all serious and spiritual and whatnot. My old neighbour Milton put a healthy dose of sweetness into the art by requesting breasts. The shot I’m working on today is supposed to be this heart torus thingie… but there’s all this empty space on either side – widescreen. Problem solved, pair of beautiful breasts on either side and we’re done.

Here’s the inspiration for the offering to the Great Spirit shot. It takes place towards the end – where modern man has fallen and has to rebuild himself without the old rejected values.
I was looking for a water type setting where a claw holding a goblet is rising from murky waters. This image had the dramatic grasping going on that I was looking for.
The colors are going to be more maroon and green… puke like… since it’s more of a purging.

Didn’t quite know how this was going to relate to the movie – but it did. Got stuck in a 15 min timeloop yesterday. Sunglasses went missing. Helped some lady jump the fence to escape hospital and get on the subway. There’s some dark places in Vancouver.
Long story short – managed to write the project brief and design a DVD cover with some help from friends.

Here’s a picture that somewhat sums up the whole experience.

Well, the festival is over. Still buzzing. Can’t really describe the aftermath in words so I’ll post this picture.
The only “review” we got for the trailer was – “It’s very pretty and has a specific artistic style”. What more can you ask for really?

So the weekend was great. Folk Festival, favourite band, sunshine, new friends. Feels like we cleared a big hurdle and now it’s just cruising downhill from now on.
Here’s a picture I took at the Texas-Mexican border (seems to be a mexican immigrant).

This represents perfectly the state required to produce good work. Sometimes takes awhile to catch hold of it.

The concert last night was a great success. Been waiting to see Arrested Development for years. Smile.
Going to take the rest of the weekend off… too much hassle starting a new shot, especially a heavy one.
